Over 5,000 people attended the 30th anniversary celebration of Dungeons & Dragons at Gen Con Indy this year. Indeed, 5,000 may be a very low estimate considering the crowds lining up outside. Attendees received free t-shirts, cups, and art prints all featuring the work of Todd Lockwood. (You haven't seen anything 'til you've seen a D&D bar fight as drawn by one of Wizards' most talented artists.)
There were plenty of drinks and gamer-style hors de'ourves as well. Only a true gamer would consider bratwursts, turkey legs, and corn-on-the-cob to be hors de'ouvres, but the Ram Restaurant & Brewery provided all that and more for hungry consumers. (Pardon the pun.)
Also in attendance were a number of celebrities, including Keith Baker (creator of Eberron), the Dead Gentlemen (makers and stars of The Gamers movie), and David X. Cohen (producer of The Simpsons and Futurama).
D&D designers, artists, and the brand team stood on stage and joined attendees in a toast to D&D's 30th anniversary. The toast was led by Charles Ryan, brand manager for roleplaying games, and while not everyone could hear everything he said, it amounted to this:
Happy Birthday, D&D! You don't look a day over 29!
